JISIS Simulator

The fabrication of all SAW devices, but more so in the case of sensors, requires custom design of each type of device, and as such the implementation of suitable and practical simulation methods for surface acoustic wave devices has been a major aim for designers, as they allow for speedy and accurate prediction of the characteristics of the devices before fabrication. Therefore, our first concern was to create a simulator for these kind of devices.

Our model assumes a simple device with one IDT at either end. It also assumes a certain number of simplifications, namely, that the IDTs are un-weighted, the finger overlap is constant and that the fingers have a metallization ratio of 0.5.

The simulator is based on the impulse response method and we chose matlab to implement it because it is a powerful simulation tool. To facilitate interaction with the user, we made a small application with matlab's GUI.

JISIS Simulator has an interface that allows the user to calculate the number of finger pairs of the IDT, in order of the bandwidth and frequency that the user chooses. Furthermore, the simulator also allows the choice of various types of substrates.

Once the user presses plot, the graphical values of the frequency response, insertion loss, radiation conductance and acoustic susceptance, are shown.

simulator4

JISIS Simulator also gives other important parameters, such as, SAW velocity, wavelength, finger aperture, and so forth.

JISIS Simulator has been tested with commercial devices and the results were very similar.
