Contact Information ================================================================================ 1. System Requirements - The SDLA application is compatible with all DPO70K and DSA70K oscilloscopes that have bandwidth of 4GHz or higher. - The oscilloscope firmware version required for this release is: Model Number Firmware DPO & DSA scopes v4.2.0 or greater - The TekVisa version required for this release is 3.3.0 or greater. - The MATLAB Component Runtime, v7.7 (Release 2007b) from The MathWorks, Inc is required for this release; it will automatically be installed if necessary as part of the SDLA installation process. - When DPOJET application is used with SDLA, the version of DPOJET need to be v1.2.1 or greater. - Disk space requirements: * 126 MB of free disk space to install this application. * 15 GB or more of free disk space for file-backed data objects created when performing up to 99 measurements on long-record waveforms. - A keyboard and mouse are required. Alt-Tab keys are used to switch between SDLA and other applications. - It may be necessary to configure file/folder properties to allow users privileges to create and modify files. Consult the appropriate Microsoft documentation for details. The following folders and their contents may need to be so configured: C:\Program Files\TekApplications\SDLA C:\TekApplications\SDLA ================================================================================ 2. Contents of Distribution - Tektronix SDLA v1.0.0 - The MathWorks, Inc. MATLAB Component Runtime v7.7 - Application files located in C:\TekApplications\SDLA: * Example waveform files for use with the tutorial * Example s parameter data files for use with tutorial * Setup files for SAS 6Gb/s standard ================================================================================ 3. Main Features - Channel embed and de-embed with auto/manual bandwidth limit control. - Fixture de-embed with auto/manual bandwidth limit control. - Pre-/De-Emphasis add/removal with manual bandwidth limit control. - FFE/DFE equalization with software clock recovery. - Auto set DPOJET to perform eye diagram analysis on up to 4 test points. - Time domain and frequency domain plots of linear filter responses. ================================================================================ 4. Release Notes - OPTION LEVELS SDLA is available in two versions, known as SDLA Essentials and SDLA Advanced. Both versions are installed by default; a software security key determines which version is run. - FREE TRIALS This application generally requires a software security key to operate. The application offers five (5) free trials for evaluation. Once the five free trials are exhausted, a software security key may be purchased from Tektronix to permanently enable the software on your oscilloscope. - SOFTWARE COMPONENTS SDLA is powered by MATLAB Software. MATLAB is a registed trademark of The MathWorks, Inc. Tektronix' limited rights to the deployment of MATLAB are governed by a license agreement which can be found in the following directory: C:\Program Files\MATLAB\MATLAB Component Runtime\v77. - SOFTWARE UPDATES: REQUIRED REBOOTS When upgrading to a newer version of the software, reboots may be required both when uninstalling the old version and when installing the new. Please heed any reboot instructions provided by the InstallShield. - SWITCHING BETWEEN APPLICATIONS * It is possible to switch between SDLA and some other applications while retaining measurement setup and results. However, SDLA's operation must be completed before switching. - RECORD LENGTH LIMITATIONS * Equalizer processes the first 2 million samples. ================================================================================ 5. Known Problems - SDLA can not run concurrently with some Java applications such as JIT3v2, RT-Eye which also use TekVisa. You can run SDLA to generate FIR filters and define Math waveforms for test points. Then you need to exit SDLA, start JIT3v2 or RT-Eye to analyze test point waveforms. SDLA can run concurrently with DPOJET, though. - Before run Analyze in SDLA, DPOJET should have been started already. Try to click "Analyze" button in SDLA before DPOJET starts, an error message could appear saying DPOJET can not be started. Make sure DPOJET has started, then clicking "Analyze" button in SDLA again will setup DPOJET to draw eye diagrams. - Clock recovery in equalizer requires accurate bit rate input. Try to measure signal's bit rate using DPOJET at the test point close to transmitter to get accurate reading on bit rate value. - When a very long record length is used, Math4 at TpC may have not been updated when equalizer tries to start processing. When this happens, wait Math4 waveform is on display, then go to equalizer menu, click "Run Eq" button to equalize TpC waveform. - When source is a math waveform that relies on another math expression rather than a live source or reference waveform, (for example, source is Math1 where MATH1 = arbFilt(MATH2) and MATH2 = CH1 - CH3), SDLA code will fail to recognize that an acquisition must be triggered. Try to avoid math-on-math expressions. For the above example, use MATH1 = arbFilt(CH1 - CH3). ================================================================================ 6. Installation Normally, the SDLA application resides on the hard drive of your oscilloscope. If the application is not installed on the hard disk, perform the following steps to install the application from the Optional Applications Software on a Windows-Based Oscilloscope DVD Media. 1. If the keyboard is not installed, connect it to the oscilloscope rear panel. 2. Power on the oscilloscope and wait for it to finish booting. 3. On most systems, the TekScope application will auto-launch as part of the boot process. If so, exit the TekScope application by choosing File>Exit or by using the red icon in the upper right corner. 4. Insert the Optional Applications Software DVD in the DVD drive of the oscilloscope. 5. The autorun utility will start the installation program. If the autorun utility doesn't start up automatically, browse to the DVD and double- click 'Launch.exe'. 6. Select the menu option 'Serial Data Link Analysis Tools'. 7. Select the option 'Install Now'. 8. Follow the instructions given by the InstallShield Wizard. Do not change the default locations to install the files. The oscilloscope must reboot to complete the installation process. 9. You will need to enter the authorized Option Installation Key to enable the application. The key is specific to the serialized oscilloscope and options for which it was purchased, and is obtained seperately through your Tektronix sales person. To enter the key number, follow these steps: a. If the oscilloscope application is in the toolbar mode, select the menu button (triangular icon at the top of the display, near the right) and choose Show Menu to put the oscilloscope into menu-bar mode. In menu-bar mode you should see a PC-style menu across the top of the display. b. Go to the Utilities menu in the menu bar and select Option Installation... c. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter the alphanumeric key number exactly as it is printed on the new rear-panel option key label or in the confirmation email. The SDLA application is now ready for use. Start the application through any of the oscilloscope menu selections under Analyze>Serial Data Link Analysis ================================================================================ 7.
